I. Identify the Components of your PBI unit
CTS Topic:
Human Reproduction and Development
Project Theme:
Life Stages of Development
Driving Question:
How do we make new, healthy humans?
Student Project:
In groups of three, students will work to create a physical or technological model or demonstration of the human development life stages: from gamete formation to conception, from conception to birth, and from birth to puberty. They will also research information about diseases and disorders common to each development stage. Final group presentations will include an explanation of the models, including the biological processes necessary in each development stage, and the medical research.
II. Develop a Concept Checklist for the Student Project
Determine the concepts to be taught & the essential learning objectives. Refer to your unpacked benchmarks, completed CTS and 21st century skills.
1. Key reproductive structures
2. Timeline and processes of developmental stage
3. Common medical issues for the developmental stage
4. Model is clear and interpretable on its own
5. Model is appropriate for demonstrated development
6. Communication is clear and well-rehearsed
7. Quality of Presentation
8. Sources
III. Determine the Categories for the Concepts
Categories – Determine the main themes from the checklist.
1. Reproductive Structures
2. Developmental timeline and processes
3. Medical Issue
4. Created Model
5. Presentation
